about Milan Sopousek

Born 1959 in Prague.

As a child I was always drawing, admiring the grotesque expression. In the seventies I attented several drawing courses under prof. Nedved in Prague. Later I met painter and graphic artist Vladimir Smerda, with whom I often discussed artistic challenges. At that time, in the early eighties, I started to draw with pen and ink, trying to find my own style. I was a great admirer of the Austrian artist Alfred Kubin.

In 1985, at the age of 25, I emigrated from the Czech Republic to Norway, where I worked as a house painter, made illustrations for alternative magazines and went to art/design school Westerdal.

In the nineties I started to exhibit my works, determent to go my own, independent way.
